Gran Canaria is a diverse island, full of a whole range of natural landscapes. Landscapes that seem to change at every turn, thanks to the microclimates provided by the trade winds. This quantity and variety of landscapes has led to the island being known as the 'miniature continent'. We can enjoy both a mountainous landscape in the central area and a dune landscape in the south (Maspalomas Dunes), as well as different landscapes in the midlands, where the typical rural customs are still preserved with small farms. There are remains of what was once a large laurel and pine forest, with some of the oldest specimens of Canary Island pine in the archipelago, such as the Tamadaba pine forest. Also worth mentioning are the coastal landscapes, which, over their 236 km of coastline, offer a wide variety of landscapes. On the one hand, there are large yellow sandy beaches in the island's capital and in the southeast; on the other, black sand and pebble beaches in the north, as well as large cliffs with narrow but charming beaches on their sides, and rocky areas on the northern and western slopes.
